How to Handle Instagram’s Algorithm Changes
I have had many a conversation about the frustrating world that Instagram is today. I miss the days of growth, a chronological feed, and no secret tricks to work Instagram. It’s seems that any influencers that were big before the algorithm change continue to grow, while most people that are trying to grow, see a constant growth and loss that leaves them just about stuck where they are with the same amount of followers. I like to call it the Instagram version of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. So how do we handle this constant changing of Instagram?
HOW TO HANDLE INSTAGRAM’S ALGORITHM CHANGES
-
Don’t put so much weight on it.
It’s easy to get caught up in the numbers and get upset about our lack of engagement and who isn’t seeing our posts. For the most part, it’s pretty much out of our control, so we just have to let it go.
-
Focus on what you can control.
- Creating quality content for those that do see it.
- Being creative like Angela from The Sunday Chapter and making templates that caused her 29k following to skyrocket in two weeks to 446k followers.
- Build your website that is all yours and lead people there.
- Do like Heather Goodman said, and “do it for the art” instead of the numbers.
- Find what makes you different and do that.
-
Be you.
Instead of being picture perfect, just be real. People like that. Show your antics, your worries, your lessons learned, and your mess ups. Wear what you want to wear, say what you want to say. People respond when you’re being human instead of pretending you’re a perfect, always-happy person.
-
Keep it all in perspective.
Basically, I, along with a lot of other people are just throwing our hands up to Instagram. 🤷🏼♀️ We came, we tried, and that’s all anyone can do. I’ll be sticking around, but I’m not going to waste so much mental energy on an unpredictable source of frustration. I suggest you do the same. Because at the end of the day, it’s just an app. And you are more than numbers on a phone. You’re a living, breathing human being that provides so much value. So don’t let your value be determined by followers, likes, or engagement because it’s out of your control.
Engage in YOUR life. Like people who bring goodness to the world. Follow in the footsteps of those who are making a change. Become someone who you are proud of despite the numbers and statistics.
