How to Properly Staycation

If you were like me this summer, I worked, worked, and worked! I had plans to travel but things came up and I wasn’t able to escape. Escapes are definitely needed to refresh ourselves, gain different perspectives, and to relax. When we can’t get out of our town or state, it seems like we’re trapped. Here’s 6 ways to live it up and staycation.

1. Catch some rays.

Get outside. Do some meditating. Walk around a park. Have a picnic. Take a hike. Become one with nature and one with yourself.

2. Read a book.

The best escape is a lovely book. You can leave your situation and get transcended to another world, without buying a plane ticket. It’s magical. It opens your creativity and imagination.

Here are a few of my favorites:
-Scrambled Eggs at Midnight
-Dream Factory
-The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
-Devil in the White City

3. Get a massage.

There’s nothing like taking an hour out of your day to relax your body and get everything back as it should. Hey, treat yo self.

4. Go to a mystery place.

Get out a map of your town and nearby cities, close your eyes, and point to a place. Pack up and go there. It may be a random road or an amazing hidden gem. No matter what, explore and take pictures.

5. Take a class.

Whether it be a cooking class, pilates or kickboxing, crafting class, even an online class, learn something new that isn’t for work. It’s just for fun. You’ll meet new people and have an experience that’s out of your ordinary.

6. Hide out.

Build a fort, invite your favorite person over (and if that’s you, kudos to you!), and do your nails, watch a movie, create new flavors of homemade popcorn (hello m&m popcorn), and really just enjoy every moment.

Stay here and have fun! Getting out of your routine for a minute is always a good thing. It makes your more productive and creative. So do it.
