So here’s the problem..
We as women are so quick to put everything and everyone under the sun before us. Guilty as charged. I’ve been doing it for a long time…so long that I let go of my own identity so I could make sure other people’s fires were still burning. But what about my fire? What about your fire? Why do we have to put it on the back-burner so we can save others? It is a seemingly unselfish cause, but it really does no good in the end. It just leaves us feeling empty. It’s time for you to be the priority. Are you ready to be the Leading Lady in your life?
In the words of Ed Sheeran in his very applicable song “Save Myself,” he writes about how he gave and gave until he had nothing left, and he realizes that he needs to take care of himself before taking care of others.
Excerpts from “Save Myself” by Ed Sheeran
I gave all my oxygen to people that could breathe
I gave away my money and now we don’t even speak
I drove miles and miles, but would you do the same for me?
I gave you all my energy and I took away your pain
‘Cause human beings are destined to radiate or drain
What line do we stand upon ’cause from here it looks the same?
So before I save someone else, I’ve got to save myself
And before I blame someone else, I’ve got to save myself
And before I love someone else, I’ve got to love myself
Take it from someone that has had to learn it a million times over: Before you save someone else, save yourself. Love yourself. And be yourself.
